Stevengraphs are small Jacquard-woven silk pictures made by Thomas Stevens of Coventry.
“Woven in silk by Thomas Stevens, Inventor and Manufacturer, Coventry and London (Registered)”.
Stevens developed the technique out of Coventry’s ribbon-weaving industry; his scenic silk pictures appeared commercially from 1879.
Glazed with gilt frame.
Size of frame: 9.25 x 6.5 inches;
Size of textile aperture: 6 x 2 inches.
Weight: 309g (allow 1 kg once packed).
Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some water marks but all part of its charm and character.
