Antique Victorian oil painting portrait of the two Princes in the Tower.
English School, circa 1890.
Unsigned, artist unknown.
A Victorian depiction of the two princes in the Tower - Edward V and his younger brother Richard, Duke of York.
The two young brothers are shown closely embracing, apprehensive and vulnerable, usually imagined during their confinement in the Tower of London in 1483. The darker-haired boy appears to be comforting or protecting the fair-haired younger child.
Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame.
Size of frame: 25.5 × 24 inches;
Size of canvas: 20 x 18 inches;
Size of front portrait aperture: 19 × 17.5 inches.
Weight: 3.5 kg (allow 9 kg volumetric weight once packed).
Condition commensurate with age - various marks & scratches and but all part of its character and charm. Please note the original painting has been remounted/relined on canvas as part of a restoration.
Priced accordingly.
This frame is extremely delicate and vulnerable to damage in transit, even with good packing.
On this occasion, therefore, the painting is offered for sale alone and the frame does not form part of the price.
The frame will, however, be included in the purchase for free.
That is to say, if you are purchasing this item, then it is on the understanding that it is the painting alone and the frame will be included as a gift (and therefore accepting any and all responsibility for damage in transit).
