Antique oil on canvas painting portrait of young boy.
French, early to mid-nineteenth century, circa 1850.
The painting was originally larger but has been cut down and mounted on hardboard. The artist's name has been cut off and stuck on the back – "A M…………….." – difficult to decipher.
Boy is possibly a choirboy. Distressed gilt frame.
Size of frame: 16 x 14 inches.
Size of painting: 11.5 x 10 inches.
Weight: 1.6 kg (allow 4 kg once packed).
Reasonable condition for its age – the painting is in good condition for its age but the frame is distressed with lots of knocks and pieces missing from the gesso. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur.
This is a genuine antique original and authentic work of art which I have had remounted in a period frame. I do not sell reproductions or fakes.
Just for the sake of clarity, please note that this painting is not glazed.
This item is recommended as a collection item as the gesso frame is delicate. However, I am willing to post but please note, even with careful packing, it is likely that some of the plasterwork will break free. Risk must therefore rest with the buyer for this reason.
